What you need to know before submitting content to Menses Today:
- All content must include your full name and contact information: phone number and working e-mail address.
- All content must include a title, whether a book or product review, article, or poetry. Menses Today does not choose titles for your written work.
- Articles may be edited for any reason including length, clarity, reader appeal, and adherence to Menses Today guidelines and policies.
- Submit original content, or previously published content that you own the copyright to, the byline must match either your real name or your pen name.
- Be informative and succinct. Offer enough in-depth information so the average reader will be satisfied without being burdened with extraneous detail or wordiness. A sufficient length for text content is usually 300 to 500 words, however, we will accept articles up to 1000 words.
- Proofread your content before submitting it to Menses Today, and have at least one other person proofread it too. Your sentences should exhibit correct grammar, structure, spelling, and punctuation. Further text formatting tips are listed at the end of these guidelines.
- Give each article a strong, descriptive headline. Consider the words a Web user will enter to find this content via a search. Your headline should be no more than 35 characters and include at least one keyword. Put the keword(s) toward the start of your headline.
- Cite your sources. Any sources that informed your content should be cited in some way. When referring to information from a source, whether online, in print, or through a personal interview, an in-text citation must immediately precede or follow within the text. All content must be original. You can use other sources for facts and information, but you may not rewrite published content. In addition, list your sources at the end of your article.
- Menses Today will not publish content that is pornographic, obscene, defamatory, or abusive. Similarly, we will not accept content that contains hate speech, encourages illegal or discriminatory conduct, or infringes on the rights of a third party. The foregoing is not an exhaustive list, and any determination of whether content violates these guidelines will be made at our sole discretion.
- Do not over promote yourself or your company. While we encourage a level of self or company promotion, and we hope that we can help you build your personal brand, we ask that you avoid excessive self-promotion or company promotion within submissions. Save your about the author for your byline, and go easy on promotional links. You may mension your company or services if they are relevant, but if your content is more like an advertisement than an informative article, you are welcome to inquire about our advertising rates and options.

We are looking for research based articles, and anything relating to menarche experiences, diet and menses, or exercise and menses. As well as personal experience, poetry, and book and product reviews.
Deadlines:
Menses Today accepts content on an open-door bases. Maintaining a blog allows for flexibility and so we are able to update as often as necessary. If you have questions about our guidelines please e-mail MensesToday@comcast.net, we respond to inquiries within three business days.
Formatting Text:
Please use these formatting guidelines when submitting to Menses Today:
- Use single spaces between paragraphs.
- Use line breaks only at the end of paragraphs.
- All text should be left-justified.
- Content is published in 10-point Times New Roman font.
- Limit use of bold and italicized words to section headers or highlighting of key points. Underlining should only be used for links.
- Avoid excessive capitalization. In general, only proper nouns, the first letter of each sentence, and acronyms should be captilatized. Similarly, avoid excessive use of the exclamation mark (!). We do not want people to feel as though they are being yelled at. Bold text, all caps, and the exclamation mark is considered shouting on the Internet.
- Do not include a bio, byline or about me in your article. A byline should be included at the end of the article, which contains your name, relevant qualifications, brief description of experience, a web site address, and contact information.
- All submissions must include a title, whether an article, review, or poetry.
- All images attached to an article must be relevant to the content, and include release of liability from the photographer(s), or person who owns the image(s).
Photographs:
Copy the Release of Liability information [below] and e-mail it to MensesToday@comcast.net, include content you wish us to consider for publication, as well as a current and working e-mail address that we can use to contact you by, as well as your full name. Start copying from Release of Liability and end copying with the date, paste the information into the body of your e-mail.
